The National Museum in Dar es Salaam is a quirky mix of history that kept me entertained for an hour or two.

I loved the section on African explorers—it felt like those exhibits had been there since they first opened the doors.

But the new displays showcasing the development of humans and Tanzania’s role as the “cradle of mankind” had me quite intrigued.

Admittedly, it felt a bit dull in places, especially with some exhibits looking like they had seen better days, but the history of rock art captivated my inner nerd!

Buying a ticket was a challenge, though—who knew they needed my entire life story?

On the plus side, the staff was super friendly, and I was able to munch on a cheap lunch after exploring.

For about 30,000 TZS round trip and $17.70 for entry, I thought it was a bit pricey, but hey, it’s worth every shilling for that beautiful view! The island is definitely not crowded; my boat had only seven people!

Sure, I had to leave earlier than I wanted, but the tranquility makes you forget the chaos of the city. The staff is friendly, and while the food options are limited, you can bring your own picnic. Who doesn’t love beachside munching with fresh seafood? It’s a simple, yet delightful experience for a chill day!

Changuu Island, also known as Prison Island, is quite the curiosity! I hopped on a boat, eager to discover what this little spot off Zanzibar had to offer.

Sounds fancy, right? Well, it was originally built as a prison but ended up as a quarantine station. Funny how things work out!

Locals were having an expressive argument at the gatehouse when I arrived—talk about a welcome party!

The beach? Oh boy, bluer than my jeans! Perfect for Instagram, if I do say so myself。

While the tortoise sanctuary stole my heart with those adorably painted shells, the crowded conditions made me wonder. Do turtles need personal space too?

Overall, it’s a cute stop if you like turtles, but don’t expect anything mind-blowing! Just don’t forget to grab a cold drink after.

Food stalls line the beach, serving local favorites like fried cassava and beef skewers, but you might find the prices a bit shocking. Coconut juice is a must-try, especially if you’re sweating from the heat.

Mikadi Beach in Dar es Salaam is quite the character. It’s a cozy little spot with beach huts, a restaurant, and a pool that beckons you to relax. But, is it paradise? Well, mostly, until night falls and the beach bar next door cranks up the volume to “party until you drop.”

As for the staff, Gloria and the team are gems! They work hard, ensuring you feel welcome, even when the rest of the service feels a bit like molasses in January. One night we waited two hours for breakfast; at least the pancakes were tiny and cute!

So, are the rooms a high-end stay? Nah, think basic military barracks with a beach view. If you’re okay with bugs and no AC, you might survive. Just remember to dodge those falling coconuts! It’s definitely an adventure, but perhaps one to reconsider. Who wants beachside stress, right?
